How do yall find is the best way to sharpen these blades? Ive got a mini on the way and ive had issues with recurve blades in the past.

Thanks
Ian

The way I use is paper wheels then knock off the burr with a sharpmaker.

I have always used a Spyderco Sharpmaker on my Emersons, you just have to tilt the blade so that the rods are making contact correctly with the edge.

I would suggest using a Sharpie to color the edge, that way you will be able to tell if you have the knife tilted enough or not when making your strokes down the rods.

Use the corner of the rods for the recurve, that way you will get all of the edge, just be sure and take it slow and don't let the tip slide off the rods, you can round the tip off if you do.

A few light passes on the backside will knock the burr off and your good to go.

Whats the 'PS' mean? I actually just picked up a jungle commander. I love it, the g10 is perfect it's very different from any other g10 I've felt.

Haha, nevermind. Idk what I was thinking, but there's a seller on ebay, his name starts with a B. And usually if your patient he drops the prices down 20-30 dollars randomly. I've bought a couple knives for good prices by doing this.

Yeah I figured that out lol. And nope I got the partially serrated one :D it's a big knife but I love it.

I have an EdgePro, but I sharpen the Commander on a SharpMaker along with most recurves. It's possible on the EdgePro, but it's a more difficult process, involves either getting thinner stones or using the corner of the 1 inch stones (which wears them unevenly), and the length of the edge gets a little whacky. Also, since Emersons are really easy knives to sharpen, I don't hesitate to use the medium stones on the SharpMaker to fix even pretty significant edge damage, which is a big advantage of the design.

I use the side of my whetstone pictured here. I've worn the side down a bit from sharpening knives like the commander on it. I sharpen the recurve up to where it slopes down to the front on the side, than I do the front part on the top like I do most knives. For me the tricky part is stropping it as I don't have a small leather strop capable of fitting in the recurve very well.

What slot do you use Boru? It has been forever it seems since I've used mine. Use the ceramics or just use the diamond rod.

Rolf, you may want to check New Graham. Last I checked they had two PS Jungle Commanders in stock.

Doesn't really matter whether you use the 30 or 40 degree slots, you will be tilting the knife anyway to match the angle of the edge. I just use the ceramics, haven't had the need to use the diamonds.

DMT diamond stones are the way to go and if you dont feel like freehanding it you can get the aligner kit and set it to a specific angle. Its like a poor mans wicked edge.

ALSO forgot to mention that my commander is of the partially serrated variety so I don't have to sharpen the recurve portion in a traditional sense.
