Question for INFI throwers

Do you prefer throwing by gripping the blade or the handle? Does this change with the size of the knife?

Tel1sps's thread about throwing the BOSS got me curious.

I do both. It all depends on distance to the target. If you only use a handle hold, you limit your self to the set distances that the rotation is right for that hold. If you do both you are able to stick at more distances.

A word of caution, be very careful with a blade hold on a sharp knife. It works, but you could easily remove a finger throwing a big knife.

For instance, the FBMLE (any FBM really) has enough blade height from spine to edge, that you can grip with less risk of finger slicing.

If you have any doubts, just stick with handle hold.

I have a couple video's of me throwing a FBMLE with both handle hold and blade hold.

However, I am gun shy about going to Photobucket to post them, because of all the virus issues with Photobucket right now.

Let me see if I can scare up those threads and link, or repost them here without going directly to photobucket.

here are some video's of me throwing my FBMLE, and other fun stuff.
This is at 25'

I'll see if I can find that blade hold. It's on here some where.

OOPS, that was the blade hold. Now maybe I will find the handle hold.

Sort of depends on the knife and the goal.

The Straight handled knives throw well either way.

The E-Models thow more like Hawks if thrown by the handle.

The Mojos on the otherhand seem to throw well either way.

I do not have and have not thrown most of the fusion models.

Thanks all for chiming in.

Nice blade throw Bigfattyt. Looking forward to your other vids. Is the blade you're throwing in that video the same as the one in your avatar?

Hey papathud - I'm not sure what Hawks are.

I've only thrown tomahawks in the past but I can see how much fun it would be to throw a big hunk of INFI. Thanks for the finger warnings. Would hate to have a :mad::(. ;).

.

Yup, same one as in my avatar.

Modded FBMLE.

I throw hawks a lot. I have to admit, I even have a battle axe I throw on occasion.

Here are a few different video's. I still have not found that handle throw.

CS GI Tanto (with the top guard ground off, and a high tec electrical tape handle), and CS Rifleman Hawk from 25 feet.

this is the same hawk from 41 feet. (could not get a better angle video, without the wife getting in the muddy garden and dirtying up her new shoes and trampling the pop's garden).

'Hawks. Uh, yeah. Was pretty tired when I posted last night and slow on the uptake.:o

Thanks for posting the vids Bigfattyt. I'm going to have to try throwing the 'hawk with the blade facing me. That's pretty sweet.

Depends on what I'm throwing. My HHHFSH was a handle throw and SJTACs were blade throwers. My BATAC can go either way and I'm not throwing my CGFBM.

BigFT, just have to say again, your signature FBMLE is AWESOME and your thowing prowess are VERY impressive:eek::eek:

Sorry all, please continue with your regular scheduled programing...
The only INFI I thow is other peoples:D "Can't break what's not yours.":p

Seriously, I stick with tomahawks...

TomaHawk, you tend to throw inline with the head/edge.

E-models, if thrown by the handle, seem to need to be thrown inline with the edge.

Throwing by the blade, you tend to have the edge at about 90 degrees to the direction of throw.

Throwing very different blade shapes and sizes as you walk toward or from a target will get you skills.

Easy to start throwing, there are lots of guides on knife throwing.

Getting to where you can throw most knives, of differing shapes, lengths and types all from the same spot, and then learning to throw while walking is pretty cool.

When I was throwing my Ruck, it was handle hold, and edge forward. Yet every time I would pull it out of the board, the edge was oriented up. The blade must have twisted in flight, might have been an artifact of my release?

Throwing a Ruck!

Thanks for the insights papathud. Any guides you recommend in particular?

what it does is open up more distances for you.

I throw both bit forward and bit backward.

One great thing about the bit backward is a really hard throw from close. When closing to the target you can throw that way and really, it is about the only throw I would use in a "fight". You can throw that way from so close there would be no time to move or dodge (and would only use that if I had another knife or hawk in my other mit).

Basically alternate bit forward or back for every pace and 1/2 or so depending on how the hawk rotates.
