Question for knife makers with a website

This discussion reminds me of the old adage, "If you have to ask the price, you probably can't afford it."

I wonder how many makers scare away potential customers by sending this message about their knives when they don't post their prices?

Hey NS,

This discussion reminds me of the old adage, "If you have to ask the price, you probably can't afford it."

LOL...who doesn't ask the price...on anything! Just because I ask the price doesn't mean I can't afford it. What I am looking for is value for the money.

I do agree with you that many of these makers do not list prices....not because of the old adage. But because they know that their price can be easily compared to other prices literally around the world.

This goes back to my comment about pre-qualify the buyers in order to maximize your time spent with potential clients. As well as makers not really knowing their position in the market and as such do not know how to price their knives accordingly.

Then again, maybe they just lost the password to their website! :D

Hi 2 Knife,

As a spin off question, for collectors that have put up a website, what advantages have these offered to you?
One general question: What are the usual costs of starting up and running a website?

Excellent question David. How about starting a new thread with this.

Hi Burl,

Also a good idea to include dates of updates so people won't think it is a dead website.

Excellent point.

Also, your comments on maintaining a website are on point.

That being said I think the sites that have 10 photos on a page would be pretty easy to maintain.
