Question for knifemakers...do your feelings get hurt...

I think one of the main ideas of the custom knife is that it can be altered to one's needs, or liking after all. It may cost more too.
I've worked with several makers so far haven't had problems with my requests and discussing or changing them.

I'm not sure how is the maker going to TEST the customer, or what does that mean exactly. Obviously the maker knows a lot more about knives than I do. That doesn't mean I can't ask for things to be done in a way I like them. As usual whenever I make such request I do ask makers opinion about it and make my decision based on that.

As of the use, I can't physically use all of my knives even if I wanted anyway, so that question is hard to answer too.

First I got abit "hurt" when I saw one of my knives for asale on the secondary market...then I realized that it only does PR work for me....One of my best customers got to know my knives after buying his first on the secondary market..I would probably never have meet him if the other guy did not sell it....

What pisses my off is when I request payment when the knife is done and I simply does not hear form the customer again....

As Jerry said..when you have to buy grosseries for the knifemoney it is rough when people just decides to go elsewhere on a finished order.

I've only had one bad experience in this area- a custom order, for which I took no deposit, but laid out some cash for customer-specified features. He got the knife, said he loved it, then a day or two later, said it was too small for his big hand. I gave him his money back, despite the fact that he had the dimensions of the knife before I even began the project.

I still have that knife, and if I am able to sell it, it will be at a price below our agreed-upon price because of the custom features. He didn't even offer to pay the shipping charges. If he gets another of my knives, it won't be from me, however uncharitable that might sound.
