Question for Lefties!

I've only found a few knives that I couldn't handle from the left side. I also wish they would make the cut-out part by the thumb stud more accessible to left-handers. That is good news about the Para Military, that's the next bad boy on my list.:D

Kershaw's Toggle Lock and RAM Lock, Spyderco's Compression Lock and Ball-Bearing Lock, and everyone's back lock is left friendly. So long as you can have righty tip-down or lefty anything, so are linerlocks and framelocks. Haven't tried the others, but I'm sure they exist.

My favorite locks, as an obnoxiously vocal lefty, are the Kershaw External Toggle Lock, Spyderco Compression Lock, Benchmade Axis Lock, Spyderco Ball-Bearing Lock, Kershaw RAM Lock (new to it - it may become my favorite yet), and everybody's back lock. Favorite of those is the Compression Lock (it's better for lefties, but don't tell anyone).

Interesting collection of locks there. So far the BM Mini Grip with its hole for opening and axis lock is about the most left friendly knife I've come across. In fact it's my current week day EDC.

Must get some examples of the others you mentioned, like the toggle and ball bearing locks.

I'm a leftie.

Like people said, locking mechanisms in themselves aren't a problem at all. Liner and frame locks (with the locking liner to the orthodox right side) seem to me a lot easier to operate with your left hand (and I'm not saying that because I'm left handed :)) and most other locking mechanisms (except for compression lock, which I've actually never tested) are ambidextrous.

What can actually pose a problem though is of course these wretched irreversible pocket clips, but even more so knives where there isn't enough space between the right handle scale and the left hand thumb stud to operate the thumb stud properly with your left hand. This is extra common among Liner and frame locks.

There are also knives that only have a thumb stud on one side, which is of course an even greater disaster.

I'm having this problem with my Small Classic Sebenza - to the point where it's a 2 handed knife for me, and certainly not my favourite.

You can get LH Sebbies, I have one.

Yeah, I found that out after I laid out the cash on this...from a Supplier here in Aus, with the exchange rate doing what it was doing, I figured it'd be now or never. :o

You could sell it fairly easily and pick up another from somewhere like Newgraham. Exchange rate is a bummer right now but you might as well have a knife you can enjoy.

Woo thanks for the feedback everyone! I will most likely pick up my first spyderco soon
