Question for Lefties....

Both very fair arguments, I actually just bought a Lefty Umnumzaan because I liked the idea of a knife tailored especially to me. But also as a collector I wanna find a work around that I can use so that I can carry anything I want.

Completely understandable.

I own knives that have right-handed locks but they also have left-handed carry clip options. I do have 2 that are right-clip only but they were really cheap and bought when I first got into this hobby. There are knives out there I would really love to own such as the DDR GunHammer you mentioned but due to the right hand only carry option and the high price tag, I just avoid it (albeit a little reluctantly).

My mindset does limit the knives I can collect but to tell you the truth, I probably need that so I don't go buying everything in site. ;) There are even some customs I would love to own but the knife maker doesn't offer left-handed versions and when spending that kind of money, I would much rather get a knife that is as much a joy to use as it is to look at.

I am pretty much there with you!

I don't like spending a ton on a knife if they're not left-handed specific. I can do ambi-opening or maybe something like an axis lock at a reasonable price but I will not pay big money for a right-handed lock when I can just get a custom from someone who will make me a lefty frame or liner lock.

I don't buy ANY knives that are righty only.

I have some that I either found or were given as gifts. But will never purchase one.

Which sucks because there are some nice knives that I would buy.

Knife makers should pay attention.

My sentiments exactly. there is something annoying about carrying a knife designed for someone else. I wont do it any more, with the one exception of the Para2 which is pretty good for leftys. I've just come to terms that I will never own a Hinderer or Strider. There are too many great lefty specific or ambi knifes to compromise. I.E. 1) gotta love those lefty CRK's, 2) yesterday I just I just snagged a RJ Martin LH smooth OverKill and 3) Kirby Lambert will have a Snap flipper ready for me later this year..... And no moneys left for knives that don't cater to me.

Here's a pic I took yesterday for another forum:

I'm sure everyone knows about all of these, but just for some eye candy

I think every lefty should own a LH Military. Spyderco should be rewarded for making it for us. The same goes for CRK if you can swing it....and CRKT for that matter.

And if there is a knife out there that you wish was lefty, make some noise. Call the manufacturer and ask them when they will make a LH version. But when they make em, we have got to support them and buy them.

The confusing part is that lefty's are 18% of the population...what other industry can afford to disregard the numbers? Especially since we're just talking about drilling and tapping the opposite side for the possibility of left hand carry?

I always carry left front pocket. My SAK is always right front since it's two hand opening anyway. Never had a blade open in my pocket.

i usually carry my righty only knives on my weak side, and they function primarily as a utility blade. Then my tactical blade stays in my left front pocket. But stay away from righty only blades, unless you want a setup like that. I have trained myself to reach for the utility blade to beat on, and saved my tactical blade so that it will be sharp and ready if i ever need it. something like a small case trapper or trapperlock, or kershaw scallion hangs out in a small opentop sheath on my weak side. bigger and meaner, zt350 or spyderco endura in my left pocket for tactical use, and firearm in the back. Hope to never have to use anything but the trapperlock. back pocket carry with pocket clips... i've had nothing but bad experiences. Either there's a hole in my leather couch, or it gets snagged on something and I lose it. I stick to belt sheaths and front pockets, or the magical knife pocket some tactical pants are equipped with.
