Nemo,

I checked out the Schrade Sharpfinger after reading that it was your daily carry. I think it is an interesting looking little knife and I was wondering how you carry it. Do you use the sheath it comes with or do you have a custom sheath? I am moving towards the idea of carrying a FB but have not been able to work out a carry method that will be concealed and comfortable.

TIA,
Clay

Hello,

I use a Kydex Sheath made for me by Fred Perrin.
I have made pictures of it.
I can send it to you if you want.
The kydex is vertical carried behind my right hip.

These days I am carrying also a Moran Spyderco
also behind my right hip.

Cheers,
JM

Clay,

I'm with Nemo and many other recent converts. Give that Spydie Moran a checkout...you will be very surprised.

Yes,

The Moran is a beauty in design and really confortable to carry and use.
The leather sheath is OK for me while others while consider the new Kydex Bob uses.

My leather sheath is worn under the belt and the flat design of the handle makes the knife
really invisible.

Also the very good grip of the handle make the quick draw in reverse grip really easy.
I can impress any french rolls in my kitchen with my quick draws !

Cheers,

JM

Bob and Nemo,

Thanks for your replies. I am thinking seriously about the Moran but still have to work out the carry problem for it (or any other fixed blade). The law here prohibits the possession of any knife in public or in a school (which is were I work) without a lawful excuse. I don't worry about carrying a folder because it's inconspicuous and I think I can justify having it anyway. A FB on the other hand is likely to attract unwanted attention unless it is well hidden. I really like the look of Bob's slip sheath for the Moran but, since I usually wear jeans, a fair bit of the knife is still going to be visible in my pocket. So far neck carry is the only method I have found suitable but that is rather limiting for a utility knife. Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Clay
p.s. Nemo, I would be very interested to see the picture of the Sharpfinger sheath if you could send it to me, merci beaucoup.

Bob,

I've ordered the Moran. I kept rereading your review and the comments of Nemo and the others and realised that I *had* to have this knife even if I can't use it as a daily carry. I told my wife that I will cook more if I have a good knife to use in the kitchen

A question. Has the Concealex of your slip sheath marked the mirror finish of the blade? I have read that Kydex will mark blade finishes and it seems a shame to mar such a beautiful finish although, as usual, I suppose it is only the first scratch which hurts

Hello,

About fixed blade in school:
These days I am carrying a Bud Nealy small Pesh Kabz in M2 steel as a neck knife.
Nobody notices it and when I show it supposed antiknife people likes it.
Its black finish makes it look perharps less frightning. I have allready noticed that "positive" behavior toward small black blades with my previous AFCK SBT800...

Anyway, it is not a perfect knife, for example its handle is less confortable than the Moran and it is harder to resharp.
But, on a daily basis, its true value really appears.
Especially these days I have been warrying sweaters, and the Nealy was really confortable to carry.

About the Kydex sheath of the Moran, I will let our friend Bob answers!

Cheers,

JM

FYI, I just sent Thaddeus one of the Spyderco Morans for review so hopefully he will have a nice review on this piece in the next couple of weeks or so. I'll keep you posted.

Clay,

Sorry about the delay in replying. Edge-Works made the sheath so that it secures around the neck of the handle... the blade itself is not snug against the concealex. I have picked up a few marks but it has been through use and not from the sheath. I intend to pull out the white rouge and buffing wheel to remove the marks when they get objectionable.

As for carry, yes I carry it in my front right pocket. In jeans or dress wranglers with the same style slash pocket the top 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch will show. But frankly no one notices. It is no more eye catching than a clip from a liner lock. Obviously your mileage may vary but it works well for me at a military base where I work.

Thanks for the reply Bob, I think I will eventually get an Edge-Works slip sheath. Now all I have to do is wait for the postman.... hang on I think I heard something. No, I forgot it's Saturday, no post today

Nemo, does this mean you paid more than $100 for a neck knife

Snicker.

Yes, the Nealy is really expensive. It's a "little shame" in my budget. I don't know what's happen to
me in the Paris Knife Show. It should be Bud Inner Beauty...

I really enjoy that knife.
But I still need to test the M2 Steel.
