Kind of a weird question perhaps. I have always slpli the pelvis on deer and antelope, but am thinking of trying the other method. Just wondering what type of knife you guys use for the purpose. Be sure to post the length and width/height.
Thanks.

Bark River Bird and Trout this most recent season... In the past a Benchmade 710, Benchmade 806 reground to FFG, Spyderco Endura4 FFG, or Spyderco Hungarian have all worked well.

Basically, a slim blade (no ZT/Hinderer spades, thank you) that's 3.5"-4" long with a nice sharp point, preferably with a full flat or at least a high flat grind and .125" thick stock or thinner. That does the trick pretty well in my experience for whitetails, long and slim enough to get the rear end out and handy enough to get inside the chest cavity to cut the trachea and esophagus.

Edit - pics, BRKT Bird and Trout after cleaning a doe this past November and a the Benchmade 710 after cleaning a little buck a couple years back. The 710 is one of the LEs with an M390 blade and I have to say it doesn't get much better than that for steel from what I've used. And I've since scuffed up the micarta on the Bird and Trout with some 150 grit sandpaper and it's got a much better grip wet than the polished deal that BRKT left it with. Don't know why you'd use micarta and then polish it so it won't grip at all.

Big Chris knife, just under 5" blade, about .7" @ the widest, .150 thick of S90V. After watching my friend use a fillet knife for big game, I gave it a try and will never go back. I actually just got a similar blade in 10V to be my big game field dressing knife.

My fixed blade Puma Skinner does a great job of skinning but gonna try my new Buck Alpha folder this coming season
