Question for Ruck & AK owners...

Rucks were in Desert Shadaw camo only, with tan scales. They have been showing up on the Exchange, sale and trade. I did not like the rough finish of the coating, and I prefer nekkid steel, so I finally got around to stripping an expensive knife (I already stripped a Skeleton Warden)

Some serious dimples on one side. I have spent only about 30 minutes with the sandpaper so far. I have new respect for the folks that have taken INFI to a satin or mirror finish. This will take some time. I cut myself once, have to get some cut-resistant gloves from work.

Hahaha, this is the AK you are gonna get! I can tell.....;)

RUCK ON!

You know I dont mind that dimpled look...it would look better sanded but I could quite live with the dimples to a degree. I was thinking of stripping the scrappy yard hook I have on the way if it turns out like that I will be happy enough. Do you reckon those dimples would have showed up if you have of sandblasted it?

Dimples are an INFI thing, I don't think SR101 or SY77 will have dimples. But you will find grind marks and such. The coated knives simply don't get a high degree of finish. I would guess that if one sandblasts a coated INFI blade, there will still be dimples, but they will not look as obvious because there will be less contrast between the high and low spots.

I have both a Ruck and an AK. The Ruck is definately a BIG knife and can be handled one handed very easily. For everything from machete, chopper, to defense / offense.

The AK is a short SWORD. So, really it only has one primary purpose - combat. But given that it is a very short sword and can be wielded one handed for other duties such as chopping, clearing, etc...

I'd have to agree with most here that for carrying the Ruck would be way easier. Of course that's not stopping me from getting a back carry rig made for my AK :D
