sal just a quick question....has spyderco ever considered making a knife with a wharncliffe style blade or is there one to be made in the future?....thanks.....feverdoc

NO! Please don't! I have been content with my Mini Dyad for a year or more now but I don't think I could resist a Warnecliff.

It would seem the Wharncliffe shape could easily accommodate the Spydie hole, maybe a full flat grind...

A Wharncliffe style Spyderco would be great. I have seen a plain edge Rescue style Spyderco with a sheepsfoot blade and FRN handles at a local store but I don't know if this is a regular offering??

I tried asking for a Delica-sized lockback Wharncliffe some months back. Sal posted that he had nothing on the board like that. I just wanted a Wharncliffe that WASN'T a damned liner lock. But maybe if we all chant "IwannitIwannitIwannit" long enough...

shmackey.....indeed the centofante was a type of modified wharncliffe but it didnt really "do it" for me...i was hoping for a real honest to god wharncliffe with a spydie hole and hopefully in any other lock configuration than a liner lock (i am kinda getting tired of those) and have handles made of micarta or G10 in any other color than black.....the black handled liner lock is ok but i want something a bit different in handle color like a blue or red or green or hell candy stripped pink for that matter and have a lock system other than a liner lock....i dont know how well they would sell but it would certainly be refreshingly novel in this day of ad nauseum tactical folders....feverdoc

Feverdoc, I like this idea. Let's spec it out for Sal right here--he never gets any suggestions from us anyway...

Actually, I think it's easy for me to design this one. It should be like the JD Smith model--shiny micarta lockback. Change the color of the micarta to navy blue, charcoal grey, or earthy brown. Tone down the finger groove in the micarta but keep it. There you go. When can I expect them on the shelves? I want two.

Oh yeah, polished VG-10, of course.

Hmm... How about something with bolsters, a Lake-style backlock, and visible pins through the micarta? Maybe it goes a little something like this:

Use that polished VG-10 wharnecliffe, 3" or so, and you're good to go. I don't think Spyderco has really done the bolster thing before.

Now THAT'S a knife.

What about the Calypso ? The blade may not look like a true wharncliff but it sure works like one. It's my
favorite everyday carry. The way the ergonomics of this knife work it performs like several blade styles as
needed.

I've never had the feeling that the Centofante was a real big seller. Seems likely to me that if a modified Wharncliffe didn't do well, that going to a full one isn't realistic.

The warncliff blade shape does have some limitations in no belly. That's why Frank Centofante added a little on his blade shape. With the Calypso jr, I added even more belly. If you rally have to have a warncliff blade shape, I would suggest having some regrind on of our sheepfoot models.

The Sheepsfoot of more blunted with the "point" at the cutting edge where the wharncliff elongates to pull the
"point" out further from the bolster. That's what makes them so darn useful......the "point" & the edge are
presented to the work at the same time. The fine control of the edge is as easy as pointing your finger. Use
one for just a short while and you will wonder why the wharncliff isn't more popular for every day then the clip
blade is.
