I am a Spyderco fan and have much respect for Sal. I own more Spyderco knives than I have fingers and have purchased several additional ones that have left as much appreciated gifts to others.

My question for Sal is; What knife(s) do you personally carry? Why and when?

You can obviously take your pick of the many models you have made and now make or any that are available from any other maker or manufacturer. I ask out of curiousity, not necessarily to copy you. I have gained additional respect for you through this forum over the past couple years. You are the only manufacturer I have seen who takes such a close personal public interest in his product that you take the time to review, solicit, and respond to queries on this forum.

Thanks for being Sal.

Mark

I bet he carries a Sebbie ;)

If any knife manufacturer personally carried another company's blade, it'd be Sal! Sal's the type of guy who appreciates fine cutlery, and a knife as good as a Sebbie just has to be in Sal's personal collection, though I'm betting it's fully serrated and has a Spyderco-hole opener.;)

P.S. With all the cool, new products coming out this year, I'm guessing Sal's probably carrying a proto, most likely one of the new Schempp's, an Urban or Sage, and a couple BaliYos!:)

Not Sal, but from what I remember, 3G's got it, Sal's usually carrying a proto of some description.

AFAIK, Sal carries not one, but three or four knives at a time (sometimes even more). The very most of them are prototypes, but I don't know how it happens there is a Military among them almost every time ;) What kind of Millie? Well, we usually find out a few months later, when it hits the market... ;)

my bet is the stretch 3.....isn't this knife his personal creation all around?

I change my EDC every day. More often than not, I'm carrying a prototype. There is no better way, IMO, to test a design than to use the design.

Yesterday I carried the Pakal folder proto. The day before, it was a byrd proto. The day before that, the D'Allara 2 drop-point.

When it's not a proto, I find the Military (home or non urban travel), the Stretch and the Para get a lot of pocket time.

When traveling, a smaller FRN model, usually a Delica, Salt or Caly jr.

I Always carry a Jester.

I could of sworn I read somewhere recently he said he was carrying a carbon fiber stretch.

stretch 3? already? didn't the second version with cf handles only come out late last year?

Spyderguy what I remember reading Sal was talking about carrying the carbon fiber Stretch with zdp-189. Im sure it was the Stretch 2.:)

The last time he answered this question, it was a Native4 prototype. He has said he carries a Delica and/or Stretch II often and usually is carrying a prototype of something.

It depends where he is ;) and what he's doing.

In the UK both Gail and Sal were using Green G-10 UKPK's when at the show and during a meal later.

I suspect you folks are right, in that he probably tries out many differebt prototypes. I get the impression that he is a "hands on guy" and would expect such a person to try most of them out. After all, if I had soo many to choose from and was always making new models and looking for ideas,...I would want to try them and make sure they were worthy.

Hi Tucker,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

Today I've got a Superhawk in my pocket.
