What is a brand of knife that produces only the best quality and durable knives. I am fairly new to this knife thing and I would like some advice from the awesome bladeforums.com community. :D

Honestly you'll probably get a different answer from every person....there's allot of good companies busse, benchmade, spyderco, kershaw, emerson, esee, strider, Chris Reeve, countless custom makers....just to name a handful.

There are standard production knives, like Kershaw/ZT, Spyderco, Benchmade, etc. Then semi custom or mid-tech, like Strider, Chris Reeve, William Henry, and Rick Hinderer. Then there are custom, built one at a time by one maker, and those are too numerous to mention.

Costs will determine your level of quality, fit, and finish (in general). Tell us your budget and we'll point you towards some brands/knives.

It definitely depends on who you ask. Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade, Zero Tolerance are all high-quality. Just find a design you like and grab it. It's a never-ending experience :)

Busse, Swamprat, Scrapyard, ESEE, many many other production knives.

To many custom makers to count.

"Folder" and "durable" usually don't go together. The best made folder in the world will be destroyed in a hurry if you treat it like a fixed blade.
Tough fixed blades at least are known to exist. Fehrman, Busse, ESEE, but even those are well reputed for being a combination of quality and warranty. There's no such thing as a 100% guarantee that something won't go wrong.

Respectfully, this is just wrong. There are durable folders, very durable ones. Just try a Sebenza or XM-18. They are not fixed blades, and don't pretend to be. And in the real world 100% certainty is seldom achieved.

You need to help us a bit by telling us what you expect to do with your knife.

"Best" or "durable" means different things to different people. Please also include a price range.

Spend some time to explain your thoughts and needs beyond asking a very general question, if you are serious.

Besides us needing more info on how you plan to use the knife.

It all depends on the price you're willing to spend.

There are plenty of production knife brands(Benchmade, Zero Tolerance, Kershaw, etc) that produce awesome knives.

But IMO if you want the best then you need to venture into the Mid-Tech/Custom market.

And once again you will find MANY Custom makers that make fantastic knives.

Like.....

Chris Reeve
Rick Hinderer
Mikkel Willumsen
Les George
Les Voorhies
Chris Martin(Phantom Steelworks)
Jason Brous(Brous Blades)
Jason Clark Customs
Strider Knives
Jason Stout
Three Sisters Forge

Those are just to name a few but ALL produce stellar knives and should strongly be considered.

The question is a tad minimalist...

What are YOU seeking in a knife?

Are you drooling on traditionnals? Utilitarian? Butter knives? Tacticals?

There are a myriad of very good manufacturers (okay, maybe not be a myriad, but a nice crapload of it). Specifying what you are seeking will help these fine folks to direct you in the best direction.

Totally agree that cost will be a huge factor in determining what you consider best quality/most durable knives.

I don't think anybody can tell you what the "best" knife is. If there was such a thing as a cutting tool that stood head and shoulders above all others, we wouldn't have the wide variety of brands and styles that we've got on the market today.

The tasks you expect the knife to perform, your budget and personal taste (and even your local laws) will define what the "best" knife for your needs is. And even then, you'll probably find quite a few that fit the bill (and that's where the addcition begins...).

Some great brands have already been mentioned. It would help if you told us what you'll use the knife for, how much you want to spend and what aesthetic traits appeal to you.

This. But it is pretty hard to go wrong with Kershaw, Benchmade, Spyderco, and the like.

Honestly, you can read all the responses you want. But you won't really know what you like until you buy several cheap knives and find out what features/designs you like.

Many, but I'll stick to one of each that I think are the best. Quality, and durable to me means one that is very well made, and will last a life time.
You said brand so I won't mention any handmades.

Folder - Chris Reeve
It will never develop blade play, loose pivot, etc..., and can be sent in for a refurb to be made to look new again.

Fixed - Busse
Very tough, but if something did happen its covered no questions asked.

My personal favorites:
Kershaw/ZT
Spyderco
Benchmade - Love their balisongs especially
Chris Reeve Knives
Strider

What kind of knives do you like? What do you use them for? What's your price range? We can point you in a good direction.

A great start would be for the OP to clearly state:

How much he wants to spend
Folder or fixed blade
What size blade
Intended uses
Where he lives so local laws can be applied to narrow the options
Just one knife right now?
Does he know how to sharpen a knife? Have equipment for same?
