Question for Star-Tac Umnumzaan Owners -- Got One!!!! (Pics)

If I could find a tanto blade to install on my Startac I think I'd have my ultimate CRK. I just really love that blade shape and the Startac handles have always been a favorite.

Well, I got my Star-Tac and I have to say I am quite impressed with it. The first thing I noticed (besides the killer looks) was the grippy nature of the scales vs. the standard Zaan. I really like how secure this is in the hand and easy to grab. I definitely see how the scales can make some "impressions" in the hand and fingers while using it, but not sure that this will be uncomfortable for me in real use. When I'm shaving/whittling wood, I either put a lot of force into my palm from the back of the handle (which is smooth on the Startac), or I use my thumb to put pressure on the back of the zaan blade, which is also very smooth. I'm just not sure I'll be putting enough force on the sides to cause discomfort to my palm or fingers. But, the jury is out until I've tried it.

Also, I have a couple of Fiddlebacks and a BHK for nice fixed blades to do any major carving. If that is the plan, I'll pick up a fixed. I would imagine the Startac won't see a whole lot of wood carving/processing since that isn't what it's designed for. It will be mainly a utility blade that will handily be in my pocket when needed. If in the woods and I need to take down a few branches and it's all I have with me, I'm sure it will do the job just fine. But it won't be the only blade I take on planned hikes or camping trips.

And, it may sound silly to some of you, but this is really the only blade I own that I would consider somewhat "tactical" in nature. If I am venturing out and want to feel just a little safer, this is the one I would grab and throw in my pocket. For this purpose, the much more grippy nature of the Startac handles provide for a much more secure grip. The starburst pattern just fits this job far better than the stock handles.

So, pics or it didn't happen... say hello to my little friend..
