Hi Guys
I used to own a Benchmade CQC-7 but got rid of it because it was an Auto (don't like them) and wasn't ambidexterous. I love the design of the CQC-7 but the knife wasn't for me. I am expecting a CQC-7 (non waved) with the BT coating in a trade the coating has been scratched some and was wondering if anybody has removed the coating off their knives when it has been badly worn?
Also are the Emerson CQC-7 Ambidexterous? Can you change the clip from side to side?
Also I could not sharpen the Benchmade knife worth a damm are the Emersons any easier?
Thanks for the help.

Lots of questions there. :D

was wondering if anybody has removed the coating off their knives when it has been badly worn?

Yes, it has been done several times. Several people here have Satin finished their knives after removing the Teflon coating.

A friend used a product called "Midway Metal Magic" to scrub the finish off. She says it went very smoothly and fairly easily. The cloth is used to remove the finish from firearms. Link.

Also are the Emerson CQC-7 Ambidexterous?

CQC7s can be used with either hand. However, they are not truly ambidextrous in design. Right handed CQC7s are easier to use right handed then left. Left handed models are easier to use left handed then right. But it pretty easy to open and close with either hand.

Can you change the clip from side to side?

The bodies do not come drilled to change the knife from right handed carry to left handed carry (ala CQD). I have had several knives converted to this style at a local Machine Shop for a few dollars, including Commanders.

They do however come drilled and tapped to change the carry method from "tip up" to "tip down" should you desire.

Also I could not sharpen the Benchmade knife worth a damm are the Emersons any easier?

Sharpening a Chisel Ground knife is a tad different then sharpening a conventionally "V" ground knife. Here is a section of the Emerson web site that will show you how to sharpen a Chisel grind. Link

Hope that helps

John

Thanks for the info sounds like I should have it tapped for left hand carry. I will evaluate the finish and try the product you mentioned.

The Benchmade Auto CQC-7 was a good knife ,it worked flawlessly and stood up to some pretty hard use. I bought it used from a friend for $75. I traded it to a local dealer for a Spyderco. I'll see if he still has it. It was a quality knife just not my taste.
Thanks
