Question for the Axe experts

bushman did you buy yours from deakin? i notice they sell the sheaths separately for a few extra bucks.

i just hope that deakin has em in stock, never bought from their so i'll give em a call tommorow

Short of chain saw, that Small Forest Axe is about as good as it gets for limbing. I have limbed hunderds of cedars in the olden days with one.

The felling axe is basically larger, so Wetterlings 32 inch chopping axe will work fine.

The Snow and Nealley Double Bit axe at 36 inches and 3 1/2 lb head could handle the big stuff. And you then have the choice of having one side more capable of splitting as well - 2 axes in one.

They are almost guaranteed to have stock. While you're there, ask to have a look around their warehouse section if you've never been. It's super cool, full of interesting survey gear etc. It's like an up-to-date version of the basement I grew up in (dad was in mining.)

hey jca21
the wetterlings are a great buy, almost the same as grunsfor/bruks but a third the price.
The cold steel trail axe sounds like a good fit for you, european head design and 35 bucks canadian at Warriors and Wonders on Cambie, say hi to Jay as he is Bladescanada here on the forum. I beat the hell out of that axe all summer and fall. No sheath but nothing a pizza box and ducttape can't fix if it's just for camp and car.
I'm in cloverdale, where are you?
off to work.......

thanks for the info guys,

didnt realize how many vancouver people we had, should try to hold some sort of meetup like our bros down south do.

now i just have to wait till thursday when i've got some time to go pick stuff up.

cheers

got my axe today, 2 1/4 with 28 inch handle from deakin. dealt with a fella named scott, was a great overall first experience at the store.

i also got the premium leather axe sheath for 24.50 at the store, it is extremely well made and snaps shut securely.

cant wait till the weekend to take this baby out and swing at some wood.
