Question for the bag ladies: modestly priced packs, ideally molle compatible

The MAP bag I used for a while had a tendency to sag pretty bad if overloaded. My Eagle Industries and Blackhawk AIII bags did the same thing. Load distribution would have alleviated the problem, most of the time.

It would be a fine bag for carrying hunting gear. Especially if you are taking your time packing it.

mmm, bags.

i'm told by a certain pilot, that BLUE TARPS are amazingly, highly visible from the air.

later, when taking about 1000s photos from a helicopter ride, i noticed that blue tarps are indeed annoyingly visible. weird but true.

Daizee,

If you were thinking about the Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon I'd say get it. I just picked one up a few weeks ago and Im happy with the purchase. Looks like its gonna last me a long, long time. Its worth paying a couple of extra bucks for quality that lasts. Plus I got a pretty good deal(under $100) from the popular jungle site.

I'm pretty pleased with the Condor II. Found one used on the exchange. Rugged, but a little thin in the straps when loaded down.

I picked up a new falcon at auction for just under a bill. The Molle II assault or 3 day GI packs work great too and can be had pretty cheap 35-40ish, I sold the last couple I had 2 weeks ago or I would have sent you one.

I hear Vera Bradley is having some good sales this week. You may want to look into that. Not sure how they do with MOLLE though...
But for seriously, I hear 5.11 does a good job. Do not have one but if I had the money I would get a rush 12.

Chestnut Ridge is a sponsor here right? They have some Molle packs on their site real cheap. Worth looking at art least. Certainly in your price range.

Indeed I am.
Spend the evening filing, sanding, heating, squeezing, edging, etc.
NOW I can look at bags again.

If Maxped is too expensive, you just need to save up more. Thats the lowest level you can get a GOOD pack. I looked around a lot before I bought my Vulture II. It was $120 and I have $100 worth of additional pouches on it. But for 1000denier Teflon treated Cordura nylon....thats cheap. That pack will last forever. Anything cheaper will be a knockoff.

Maxpedition does not use Condura.
Tactical Nylon and thats it.....

Go with Kelty over maxpedition bro, you will thank me later when using it.
kelty map 3500 will put any max to shame

What's bigger, the '3-day pack' or the 'assault pack'? These seem to be standard designations across many manufacturers, I'm guessing they correspond to some milspec.

I probably want the smaller one for hunting *is my guess*.

Ugh, I was afraid of this rabbit hole. my optimizer has kicked into gear...
What started out as a 'can I replace my hunting pack with something slightly more appropriate for a modest price" has just now turned into "Wow, I can totally plan a full spectrum pack system..."

I HAVE a Northface Bigshot, which isn't a spectacular bag, but it's fine as a motorcycle trunk, and I took it on a thousand mile bike(motor) trip last summer and it was just fine. I don't NEED to replace that. No NO. NOOOOOoooo...

The stuff in the maxped falcon or 'assault pack' style (mfr agnostic) are really appealing as a more serious traveling backpack, whether by foot or anything else. I don't do much of that anymore... But... but... but.... WANT.

I have a big camping backpack that will take a sleeping bag & tent, which despite its size holds very little. The thing irritates me for that reason, but since I've camped maybe twice in the 15+ years I've had it, that doesn't NEED to be replaced either.

Problem is, if I replace my hunting pack with a cool bag I'm gonna want another one to use more regularly. By personal policy, I do NOT re-task my hunting pack - that's a recipe for showing up at school without your underpants. It's my hunting pack all year, and most of the time it sits in a corner. I do approve myself to use it for other hiking activities, however.

Perhaps it needs to be re-named 'outdoor & woodland activity pack'.

They are pretty much the same thing. Made to haul about 50lbs of gear, max. Pretty much a large , well organized day pack.

Any assault style pack would be great for hunting ,as well as the Becker Patrol pack.

For those on a budget, it's hard to beat the ILBE USMC 3 day assault packs ,IMHO.
