I have 2 vic rucksacks I like em a bunch...they seem to have everything I need for light wodds tasksI feel I could make a shelter start a fire improvise food process small game, and open a bottle of shiraz, That being said I havn't really had a chance to put them to the test yet..I'm curious as to how they hold up with time and use...do they get gritted up easy??? does the added mechanism of the lock complicate things later, just looking for feed back from the guys who have used them for a while.

I haven't had any problems with mine and I have three that have the side type lock. The way it designed, I can't imagine any problems with this type of lock.

I have two, a Vic Trekker and a Vic Locksmith. Neither one of them have what I would call loose mechanisms. I've gotten both of them dirty, and after a bit of cleaning they still lock, open and close reliably.

No problems here. I lent one of my Rucks to someone when they went to Florida for a trip, and it got returned to me with nasty salt corrosion and sand in every crevice!!! I thought it was a goner! My heart sunk.

I cleaned it up hoping to maybe save it, and it's perfect. Not a flaw on it. It survived the "boob-headed borrower" test, which is often the hardest trial your knives will go through. :D

Got the Trekker and the Hunter. No problems with many, many trips into the field. One thing that concerned me when I first got the Hunter, was blood and grit getting into the lock mechanism. I had no problems at all.

I've got both a Rucksak and a Trekker. The locks are different and they aren't the strongest blade locks, but they don't need to be super strong. They're aren't trying to be fixed blade, just there to stop inadvertent closure when the user puts pressure where it doesn't belong. Keep the pressure on the cutting edge and the lock is unnecessary.

Had a Vic Hunter for about 17 years. It's had a lot of use and been a great knife. No complaints at all.

Never had a problem with my Rucksack... I had one with a linner lock and somehow I misplaced it. I was looking for another one with a linner lock but I could only find the side lock models. I got one and I thought I could have some problems with dirt and pocket lint getting in the way but... it works flawlessly. I got to say that it has a little bit of vertical play (which I didn't have with my long gone linner lock) but other than that it is ok.

I have had the onehander in my back pocket since they came out. I probably open it 5or 6 times a week to cut something, Orange peel, bag.... The lock is just as tight as it ever was.

I've EDC'ed a Vic Rucksack for 17 years now. I'm on my 2nd one. The only reason I still don't have the 1st is that it failed the "stupid friend" test. Not 10 minutes after he borrowed it, it disappeared never to be seen again.

Other knives rotate through my pockets, depending on need and/or my mood. But unless I'm wearing Speedos:eek: my Ruck always goes with me.

BTW: I actually prefer the slidelock to the liner, but it may only be because of familiarity.
