Question for those of You who've used an ammo pouch to carry your PSK

I'm working on putting my PSK together, and so far I think it's all going into a mini loaf pan, and I'm considering putting everything in a 30 round ammo pouch, and putting a shoulder strap on it so I can carry it bandolier/messenger bag style.

So here's my question:

Will the grenade pouches on the sides hold a bottle of water? Like a 16oz/500ml desani bottle?

If so that would be cool, if not, I really don't know what I'd do with the granade pouches, maybe cut them off? Do they make those same mag pouches without grenade pockets?

I'm just trying to figure out a way to incorperate a bottle of water into my carrying system if possible, but I don't want to get one of those big bags with watter bottle pouches on it. I just want a small pouch, and then figure out what I'm gonna do with my water bottle.

Anyways, I'll quit rambling. Thanks.

  1. PSK ON PERSON
  2. Better on belt or in pocket as your more inclined to lay it down
The ammo /magazine pouch can be fastened to your belt. A web belt was designed for a canteen/cup and Mag. pouch.
I've used the Grenade pockets to hold a folding Saw.

I don't think it will fit a bottle, I use one for a sheath for my trailhawk and just looked at it. You may find a small bottle at the store like Bugjuice or some other kids drink that will fit. Just think the size of the baseball they are designed to carry.

Hmmm... Maybe I'll just take a baseball with me when i go hiking/camping. Never know when bear might wanna play catch LOL.

Anyways, I'm planning on wearing it with a shoulder strap, because I usually have my leatherman, or a knife, or both on my belt, and I don't like too much stuff on my belt, it drags me down. It's small enough and light enough that I doubt I'll ever feel the need to take it off, and if for some reason I do need to take it off, I can simply put it on my belt instead of laying it on the ground.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to figure out what to do with the grenade holders when I get it. Maybe cut one off and add a way to hold a bottle of water. Either that or the water's gonna have to hang from a belt loop, which I'd hate to have to do.

Geez-- put your grenades in them :D

I was at REI and going through the small Nalgene bottles and came up with one that fits in a smoke cannister pouch with a little room around the sides. My thought was to put a fire starting kit in it with some other small odds and ends. You miught find some small screwtop Nalgene bottles that could hold fire starting stuff. Like a couple of the 4oz ones at http://www.rei.com/product/402055

I use these to hold the small Nalgenes, so the loops won't work. I just cut them off, less to get caught on the brush.

Other than tie-strapping stuff to the grenade holders, the best I found was to put my rolled up poncho (it rains a lot here) in an upside down "U" with one end in the grenade holder, the body across the top with the other end in the other holder. I do it kind of tight, and I never had a problem with it coming off.

I asked the same question about using those pouches some time back. One possibility is that you can cram some models of Himalayan Imports khukuris through one of the loops until it sticks. (Only the narrow models can work for this.)

I'd also be thinking about items you can cram in there that might be handy to have readily accessible. Maybe a knit cap, for example.
