Question for those who cut themselves

Yesterday, I got a nice miniature puncture wound at the base, near the web, of my thumb from my Kershaw Tremor. It barely bled, and seems to be healing nicely. Scabbed up, no discoloration, and no indication of any infection or the like... Looks like a minor scratch on my skin. The only problem now is, even though I punctured the bottom base of my thumb, the entire side of my thumb all the way up to my nail has no feeling... It's completely numb.

I've seen WAY worse cuts show in threads on this forum. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

I don't mean to be a jerk, but really? You need to be heading to a clinic. Numbness could be nerve damage, or any number of other things. Go see a medical professional!

This is a question for your doctor, not a knife forum.

I wasn't asking for medical advice. I was asking if anyone else has experienced this or anything similar, but yes, (as a side note) I will have it looked at just as a precaution.

Probably sliced a nerve. I've killed nerves before (but not from a cut). I was told they grow/heal at about 1mm per month.

I've cut myself plenty of times, but never actually lost feeling. Best of luck, man.

Gonna have to take the thumb! :P

No doubt about it, you hit a nerve. Feeling should slowly come back, but definitely get it checked by your health care provider.

I've had similar stuff happen a couple times.
Once in my right index finger and another time in my right pinky.
The index finger got completely healed after a couple years, the pinky is still dead some 20 years later.

Here's what you do. Soak it in pickle juice for 15 minutes, then cover it in Vaseline and wrap it in wax paper for a couple days. Don't go to a doctor. Those guys are quacks. Nerve damage. Pfft. Those charalatans are just trying to soak you for money.

I've had that. My left forefinger got a nasty slice down to the bone right before the middle joint. The top half of my finger from the cut outwards is basically numb. The only real complication I have with it is that in the winter that finger gets colder much faster than the other fingers (which ironically I can feel the pain of cold in it). I'm guessing due to decreased blood flow from severing so much tissue and veins.

**edit** I did that 15 some years ago while working part time in a butcher shop.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Funniest thing I have ever read on BF. You did forget the "Pee on it" part though!

No you weren't.
You were looking for someone to hold your hand and say it's going to be OK.
Well, it may not be OK and do you really want to risk nerve damage by wasting time here
when you could, say for instance, be seeing a doctor?

Post after you get it checked out and let us know.
Good luck.

Stop trolling dude. We're all adults here. I asked because I was curious to see if other got the feeling back and to hear their stories just for my curiosity. Even if I had gone to the doctor before asking this question, I would have STILL been curious to hear other people's experiences on the matter whether it was from an accidental cut or from having surgery...

Have you ever heard of "priorities"?

You should be at a doctor now. Not here picking argument with people who are showing common sense.

This is pointless. I'm outta here.

Stop trolling dude.

He's not. He is correct.

You screwed up your thumb. If you want to risk spending the rest of your life with only one opposable thumb, then ask random strangers on an online knife discussion forum if you are going to be OK.

If you don't, then go to a medical professional.

addylo is also absolutely correct.
