I have been commissioned by a customer to complete the finish work on 2 blades recently purchased from LongRifle on his model #1 blade blank sale . 2 forged blades of W-2 , ground down to a 120 grit .

My question then is the makers mark . I am not the complete maker so I will not mark it as so . We have asked Longrifle if we could do a 2 maker mark and not have heard back yet . The man is busy . The customer understands my feelings and we have discussed no mark , but I'm not liking that idea because it may then give the impression that they are kit knives .

I have a couple of thoughts but sure would appreciate other's thoughts and input .
Thanks

I'd say the dual mark is the way to go. A lot of pieces that are collaborations and such carry 2 marks. Heck, I see Paul Bos' mark on a lot of blades he's HT'd.

If you are doing all the blade finishing and handle work, mark it "CUSTOM by ONEIL".
It is a customized job done by you.

On a few pieces I have done, where the blade was forged by someone well known at a hammer-in, I marked the piece on both sides, like this - " Blade Forged by Joe Szilaski - Moran Hammer-In 2003" and the other "Made by Stacy E. Apelt".

On the Moran blades I have, The two sides are marked "FORGED BY W.F. MORAN" and STACY E. APELT.

The above marking was done with permission.

Stacy
