Question on a knife gift for rancher father-in-law

My first father-in-law was a rancher in the brush country of south Texas (Lonesome Dove territory). He carried a medium (3 5/8"), three-blade, serpentine, Shrade Stockman, with brown jigged plastic scales in stainless steel. I've seen him use it for everything from castrating calves and trimming his fingernails to field dressing a deer. I bought and carried the same knife for about 15 years before losing it. Many years later, while moving to a new house, the pocket knife dropped out of my recliner. It was like finding an old friend, and I retired it at that point rather than risk loosing it again.

I work on a ranch and I'll vouch for the leatherman. You ever try to repair a bob wire fence with a knive. Theres a lot of fence on a ranch.
