Question on AUS 4 Steel

Hi Nit-

Please explain the grain size comment. I would think the tighter the grains are packed ( the smaller would seem to have less voids) , the higher the density, the harder the steel. M390, etc. What is my dumb mind missing other than an engineering degree in metal materials?
