Hi all, My blades have always been through hardened.
I'm going to be making a good effort at clay tempering but I have a question (a couple actually).
Has anyone ever tried clay tempering using induction heating?
It's certainly not traditional by any means but will it work?
Will I still be able to get a nice temper line (hamon)?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Howdy!... There shouldnt be any reason your temper line shouldnt show up just becuase you use a inducton heater. As long as you can take the piece to critical, and do a proper quench, you'll do just fine. What steel are you using by the way?

I use 1080 & 1095. I have recently discovered(probably a known fact just new to me). That if I go just above critical say 50 to 100 deg, do a fast quinch in water 2 seconds or less then go straight from the water to Parks#50 and take to cool my hamons are comeing out good. I have had less warpage and so far no cracks.
Like JS I don't think induction heat would make a differance. I got to use an induction forge at a hammer-in last year, That was so cool.
