Question on drying wood

I dunno man. If it were me, I'd probably let it dry whole for quite a while, and then cut it roughly into oversize handle slabs/pieces, and let it dry some more.

I sorted through the walnut lumber (1" thick planks) dad had sitting in our wood shed for some grips. It had been sitting there for 35 years, so I figured it was dry. I cut out some handle scales and attached them to a bowie, and within a week they started to pull away from the tang. I cut out some pistol grips from another piece, roughly shaped them & got 'em flat on my belt sander, and a month later when I picked them up again they too had warped slightly.

wouldn't a big light bulb and a broken oven work better (because of the vent in the top allowing moisture to escape?
