Question on fitting guard on taper tang.

I've never put one on a taper tang how does a person do it? Cutting out the slot to fit the taper.

The easiest way is to leave a section of the riccasso flat to put the guard on,But if you have it at a point were you have no flats then you need to cut the slot out to fit the thin side and then carefully file a tape to the thick side and then attach it.Or you could carefully file a small flat at the point were the tapers meet and make it just the width to match the thickness of the guard material,but this could be tricky.

I did forget to mention that most people just put bolsters on this style knife,just because of this problem.If you haven't slotted the knife for the guard yet you might think about using bolsters instead.
