I have a bunch of hatchet heads that were victims of last years fires here. Thats all I can tell you about the steel. I have reshaped these in to hammer poled tomahawks. The plan was to heat to 1500 and quench the hole thing in 28 second oil. oven temper, then use a torch to draw out the center. Problem is I don't know what to temper at for a hammer on one side and a hawk on the other side. Also on drawing out the center with a torch. I was thinking to hold the cutting edge in water and flip and dip the hammer end to keep it cool. I don't know if I'm coordinated enough to do this.
any recommendations.
