What's the best finish to use on maple burl dark dye wood? I went to 600 grit too. I tried tung oil but it's not leaving a shiny finish and not looking good. Can someone help me!

It the wood stabilized or natural?
What type dye?
The more info you share the better answer you will get.

or..........
a quick answer.
Rub it down with extra fine steel wool after the finish dries.

Edit:
Looks like I misread. I thought he was trying to avoid a shiny finish.
My bad.

I typically have my maple burl stabilized, its pretty soft and pourous so using a oil will not give you a smooth polished surface. You need a harder finish, I use crystal coat, this is buffed on and forms a hard finish, you can build up several layers.
