I was wondering if anyone else has had a blade from Busse have rust under the coating? Last weekend I took my new, new aquired CGFBM and my new DDF out for a little chopping http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=678897. I noticed the finish on the CGFBM was not as good as the DDF, but thought that was difference in type of coating. Well today, I found out why the finish is not as good--rust under the paint. I took the CGFBM out of the sheath to show my dad and a large piece flaked off. Thumb nail pressure removed even more. Kinda embarrassing when showing it off to my father--I know he was giving me a hard time because this is a expensive blade.

Anyway, what would you guys suggest to do now? Strip it, send it off to have a have convex edge put on it, change handles, etc? I really don't think getting it customized right now is an option since money is so tight, just oil it down?

Thanks for listening to a new Busse owner ramble.

Working on pics right now.

Once they clean it up for you keep it oiled in the future. I don't believe Infi is officially "stainless steel", so always keep it oiled. For satin-finished blades you could regularly polish them instead. I use eagle one nano wheel polish on my choppers, and heavy mineral oil on my skinning knives.

If you're afraid of how you looked in front of your father, just tell him it's carbon steel not stainless steel, so it rusts unless it's oiled.

No telling how many previous owners that FBM has had. My guess is that one of them stored it in a very humid environment for some time.

But Amy is on the case, so rest easy. They will get it squared away for you.

I think somebody wasn't drinking on the job :grumpy::D

I agree! That is definitely the result of sobriety!!. . . In other words. . . There is no way that I could have been personally involved. . . :D

That is my pops, he loves giving me a hard time, and generally I take it pretty good---but this was one of those times I threw up some of his prior mess-up buys:eek:
