Question on old autoclip

Hello all

I'm to this forum, I spend a lot of time in the Schrade forum. I've become a recent SOG fan & love my new Twitch II for EDC. Today I received 2 used SOGs. One is a Autoclip with a 3.25 inch blade. The blade has what looks like grinding marks on it but the edge almost looks like it has never been sharpened. I've seen blades taken to a grinder before and this doesn't look like it unless someone spent a lot of time polishing the blade over again. Did some of the old SOG knives actually ship with blades like this? The other is a Flash I in nice shape but there is some wiggle in the blade. I think SOG would repair this if I returned it to them right?? Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks

SOG would never ship a knife with a blade that looks like that. :o

It has for sure been sharpened, looks to be on a belt sander and then buffed slightly, and then touched up a little. You can see the very uneven sharpening marks on the edge.

Those are great user knives, I carry one every day around the house.

You might try emailing warranty and see if they will tune the other knife. If it's side to side play you can easily tighten it yourself with a 5/64th allen wrench (or a T-8 torx may fit).

Edit, now that I look at that blade closer, it does look more like a grinder and then a polish job, the lines are too deep for a sanding belt I think.

Does the blade look like it has been sharpened down alot? How much blade rating from 0 to 100% do you think is still there? I'm just not that knowlegable on what a new one looks like. Maybe I'll check the SOG websight if they still make these.

Since SOG no longer makes the Autoclip, it's not listed on their website.

Fortunately, here in the SOG forum we've gotcha covered. Here's some shots of a factory new autoclip.

Comparing the knife with the pictures, someone ground down the blade extensively.

Either the previous owner was using that knife for a year or so in some sort of industrial job that required hours of cutting every day and constant sharpening, or they were were playing "master knifemaker" trying to get a zero edge or whatnot.

Maybe it's just me, but it's sad to see a knife that heavily worn down with amateurish regrinding. :(

Thanks. Judging from the photos and the actual knife it looks like the blade has been sharpened down about 1/8" maybe more. Looking at the tang area and the blade edge it's obvious. I'm wondering if this knife had a serrated edge at one time.
