Question on Pakistan knives.

I have a good pair of Pakistani scissors; they have gone about 15 years without sharpening and they still work great. My Pakistani knives lasted perhaps 15 days before they went into the circular file :(.

well my dads friend knew i liked knives and gave me a fixed blade that he found at the dump that was made in Pakistan but it was decent ive had worse though

It makes no sense to me for Marbles or Windlass Steelcrafts to lower their own brand name by peddling cheap knife-like objects. Windlass Steelcrafts is the India-based owner of Atlanta Cutlery. Why dilute their name recognition like that when they already have access to a low price market?

I can't help but wonder how Marbles is doing with this effort. We used to sell Marbles knives pretty regularly 5 or 6 years ago but we rarely sell one today. Perhaps they sell well in other distribution channels than the one I'm in. I've always felt that some brands lend themselves to selling imports and some do not. I wonder if Marbles is one of those "do nots."

Since he hasn't used it much, and probably only on light tasks, he still wouldn't know if it's a reliable knife, or if it means he should try others.

It isn't just Pakistan. There are whole lines of knives that are obviously cheap -- inexpensive and not good for much but show. They really are pretty obvious once you've been into real knives for a while.

True. I bought the knife mostly as a souvineer and carried in my semi as a self defense weapon. Which happily I never had to use for that purpose. It did see light use on various cutting tasks and held up OK. My usual carry knife is a older Buck 112 and my fav sheath is the USMC "Ka-Bar". I agree the Ole Smokey Pakistan is nowhere near the quality of these.
I was just curious, as it does seem to be of better quality than most Pakistan knives I've seen, if it was possible that there was some variation in quality on Pakistan knives. Thanks for the replies.
