Hi Guys,

I'm finishing up a paracord wrapping on a sword. I laid down a thin coat on superglue and got a good, tight, flawless wrap. Now my question is...should I coat the paracord with varnish or some other substance to harden it, or leave it as it is. Sure looks pretty. I'll post some pictures in a few days.

What I do is mix up some clear epoxy resin. My preference is System Three Clear Coat. There are other clear resins made by West System, and others.

Use a flux brush, and apply the resin to the cord very lightly. It should suck right in and look like you need more. Only apply more if you think a place was missed. If it looks wet, you are putting on too much. When the handle has been brushed from end to end, take a piece of lint free clean cotton cloth ( old tee shirt or towel ,) and wrap it around the handle. Squeeze it hard all over ( this will suck up any accidental excess). Remove the cloth, check the wrap for movement or any fuzz/lint, wipe off any resin on the blade or where you don't want it ( use acetone only on the metal places). Set horizontally to start curing. After a minute or three ( depends on how slow cure the resin is), rotate it so the other side is upward. Repeat the rotations until the work pot of resin is set up. Set it aside and let cure for 24 hours. It will look like there is no resin on it, but will be rock solid and hard.
