question on poncho as shelter

Yeah, I built one and still have it. It's not a bad idea, but I'm 5'8" and barely fit underneath. You can use it like a lean-to as well. I would say it takes as much time putting it up as it does to make an improvised shelter (poncho/siltarp and cord).

ROCK6

It is worth building it? I mean do you recomand building this or setting up with ropes etc? which is better? andunder the rain Do you think setting it up will work? just wondering
thanks

Rain covers for the pack are fairly inexpensive and do a pretty fair job of keeping the pack and your gear, dry.

Sure. But it's one more piece of gear that adds a little more weight. At 64 my goal is to minimize pack weight as a means of extending my comfortable backpacking range. Different strokes. The pack I took to the Grand Canyon for a three day trek last year weighed only 20 lbs.

nope, but that just gave me one hell of an idea for my rescue tarp with grommets on the corners! (its one of those mylar reflecting tarps, bonded to a thicker very durable tarp.

I'm going to find some old tent poles and make a similar thing as the Alpha. Those red electrical caps fit PERFECTLY into the grommet holes on my tarp....

well as someone puts it: its the price one pays for going minimalist. i tend to agree to it
