Can anyone tell me why some slip joints have a pin through the rear of the spring and some are notched out and the spring rests against the pin? It seems like a pin through the steel would be the way to go but not sure. I am making a slip joint and I am wondering why some are different. I can't find a lot of info. online for making slip joints. Thanks for any information.

Most makers put the pin through the spring. It makes it cleaner looking inside the knife and easier to clean out dirt & lint. I've made some with the pin the inside just to stay traditional, and I think assembly might be a bit easier.

Contact Bill Ruple or Rusty Preston, they put a slipjoint school a while back and will be doing it again. They are the pros I learned from them two
