Question on Tek-Lok that came with my Street Beat

I just purchased a Spyderco Street Beat and found out that the Tek-Lok attachment is too wide for my belts. I wear regular leather civilian belts (and sometimes my web belt) that are an inch wide. What kind of attachment can I buy that would fit those kinds of belts? Would the mini Tek-Lok work?

Thanks!

It might. There are also different belt clips you can attach that would likely work better. Mike Sastre, among others, offers several types.

Thanks for the lead, I'll look into the Mike Sastre ones.

Does anyone know first-hand or just 100% that a particular clip will work? I would prefer to avoid buying a whole bunch of clips.

I wear a regular belt as well. The teklock clip works ok for me. It is a little too wide but once the blade breaks into the sheath it doesn't present a problem.

Perhaps I'm expecting too much? For me to draw the knife I have to use the thumb push-off method. It also bounces/jiggles a little bit too much for my taste. I'm having trouble finding other clips that might work.

By the way, I just want to make it clear that my Tek-Lok clip does not have the screw in the large ones depicted here: http://www.blade-tech.com/Tek-Lok-Utility-Belt-Clip-Small-pr-837.html#product_images

Mine looks like the smaller ones. I can't tell if the one I have is already considered a "mini" Tek-Lok.

I prefer a secure fit, does anyone know of a good clip for regular belts that are roughly 1" - 1 1/8" wide?

You've got a mini. The large will take up to a 2.25" belt and the mini will take 1.5".

Does your tek-lok not have a bar on in the inside you can move up or down to fit a smaller belt ??? i have a few and they all have them, only the mini ones dont.

All my leather civilian belts are under 1.5". I have to wear business attire so I can't be wearing thick belts.

I don't have that bar! I was thinking that there should be something like that because I kept reading that it fits belts 1.5 inches and under. I suppose I have the mini Tek-Lok that doesn't have the bar. What do I do about this? I am guessing even if I purchase a new mini Tek-Lok it won't include that piece. I purchased it off eBay and supposedly brand new from a 100% seemingly reputable buyer and everything seemed in working order, so I don't think I got shafted...must be the lack of a bar by default.

So what do you guys think, get a large Tek-Lok for the bar so that I can fit it to my belts?

You got the right Tek-Lok, in the sense that it will fit up to 1.5", but unfortunately it won't adjust down snugly to less. The large Tek-Lok is noticeably larger and even moving the bar as far down as it goes will leave the space at 1.25" (I just tried one). Besides, the spacing of the holes on the large and small Tek-Loks is different, so if your sheath is drilled just for the small, the large won't fit.

I think you need a custom-made clip. It's just a small piece of Kydex, shaped and drilled, and there are quite a few experts around. I bet Mike Sastre can do it, or Normark. Otherwise, you'll have to settle for an off-the-shelf clip that almost fits, but isn't snug.

Thanks a lot guys for all the helpful info!

I would be happier with a custom clip...I know you mentioned Mike Sastre, but how would I go about to actually have one made? Do I just call around or something? I prefer to deal within the United States.

1 - Get a MAN'S belt!!! ;)

2 - I have had luck with putting a small piece of 3M rubber stair tread tape on the inside of the tech lok where it touches the flat of the belt.

lol a man's belt.
I will most certainly look into the stair tread tape, that sounds like quite the innovative solution!
Of course, I am still looking for a more elegant and permanent solution, does anyone have any recommendations.

Do a search for his name, he is a member here and I'm pretty sure he resides in the US. He has a link to his site. He is familiar with Spyderco products. :)

Oh, I actually emailed them a couple days ago before I registered here on the forums to ask my question. They haven't gotten back to me yet...oh well.
