hello all,
on the emerson web site, it says that the
commander is a "civilian designate of a US Navy SEAL Knife used by an elite group within the Naval Special Warfare Teams".
my question is what is this knife used for by the seal teams? i would think it would be better for them to just use a fixed blade knife, which i'm sure they do. i guess i don't see why a special warfare team would want a folding knife, no matter how good.

Crazy Horse,
The Commander as you stated is the Civilian
designate for the ESM-1. The ESM-1 is approx. 20% bigger. In a CQC, CQB etc. mode it could easily be used w/ lethal capability. It is quite Beefy and sound as a Combat Folder. TEAM guys do use fixed as well. Depending on specificity of mission. Originally designed for Army SERE criteria it was adapted by SpecWar. The obvious attributes are that folders are easier to hide covertly. Compactness, Bladecatcher/ Bottle Opener/Deployment device are extras as well. This does not preclude them from carrying another or others as well.

Hope that helps.
