Question on the Wilderness and Survival Forum

The generally positive responses in here are reassuring. Thanks.

I don't want to bore you all with a long post but if you have an interest in my education story you can just go to http://www.survival.com/education.htm

That will give you some sense of what has happened in the 10 plus years I have been working on a terminal degree. The story is at least good for a laugh.

Ron,

I just want to publicly apologize to you for my serious lack of discernment on speaking out about this issue. This is absolutely none of my business and no one deserves to have their life displayed across the Internet. I think that forums such as this can give the illusion of familiarity, when in reality I know nothing about you. And even if I did it is not my job to stand in judgement of you or anyone else. Apparently running my own life should occupy more of my time. In the future I'll allow you to run yours.

Jack

Hey Guys...

Thruthfully I'm sick to death of watching Ron defend himself all over the internet..

One post from some Crud and Ron's spending hours cleaning up after this AH....

I think Ron's explained himself enough...

Jack,

There is no reason to apologize. You probably voiced a question others had. Clearly, being stalked is no fun. We never know when the words of MA might fire off some borderline psychotic who feels it is his duty to "off" us. We had an incident 6 months ago. Idaho is a "must issue" state.

Doc Ron, I too spent 4 years in the ASA from 1966 through 1970. I didn`t know that it was no longer in existence. It seems that not many people have ever heard of it. Unlike yourself I spent most of my time in Bavaria, Germany drinking Lowenbrau. But I heard many stories of my fellow soldiers who served in Vietnam with the special forces. I like your website very much and you also have my respect and admiration for your 16 months in Vietnam.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I just reviewed the section on Ron Hood's website eliciting his military record. I've examined his orders sending him from Turkey to Viet Nam, seen his photos, followed his trail of web sites, and I can tell you what he has told you is (1) factual, (2) and about as close to the line of what he can and can't tell you as he could come without having men in black show up on his doorstep! Even though he has not given away any secrets, the fact that he has tied as much information about the Army Security Agency together probably makes the intel types in the Pentagon sweat (you know, the building with an extra side, also known as the building designed by a committee).

Little is known about the ASA, outside of the ASA. The military likes it that way. Special Forces are, and should be revered, but more is known about them than the ASA! It was the ASA that developed the intellgence information that eventually became Special Forces missions!

Also, in reading Ron's PCS orders (Permanent Change of Station) I discovered Ron, as an enlisted soldier, has a higher security clearance than I do (recently retired Army Colonel).

I commanded the supply support activity at Augsburg 1980-1982 which supported the ASA activity there. w, can you say "elephant cage?"

Civilians rarely have the ability to decipher mil-speak. Ron's stock should have gone way up when he posted his PCS orders. These things don't lie! The blacked out portion was his HOR (Home of Record), probably his parents address when he was a "youth". Smart thinking!

I think we need to look at the basics here--we have to remember the important facts. We have a man here (Ron Hood) who has:
a. Served his country
b. Is an honorably dischargedveteran c. A man who IS a Vietnam Vet
d. A soldier who could have easily lost his life in service to his country.

PhD, ABD, MA, BA (etc)...who gives a S**t?The only letters that really matter to me is Ron Hood, "Vietnam Veteran".

Welcome Home, Doc!

As the originator of this topic, I am quite happy it turned out this way. You cant see it now because Spark deleted it(and rightly so) but that guy FatMike really went to town on Ron in his original post.
As Greg said above:
welcome home Ron!
