Hi everyone,

I stripped my ASHBM and polished the blade. Every time that I touch the blade it gets a lot of fingerprints smudges.
My other knives (from the factory) do not get prints/smudges when I touch them.
Is there anything I can do to help this? How would I get that coating on the blade?? I would like to touch the knife without getting smudges all over it.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

A nice black coating would work...............

That's a good question. I use eezox on my larger non food use blades. It does pretty well. Other than that I'm not sure what you could do short of wearing gloves and/or just keeping it wiped down good.

Welcome by the way. I just read your stripping thread a moment ago.

Thank you for the welcome and the advice. Being new to Busse's and knife collecting/beating it is nice to have so many people (like yourself) on these forums who seem to like having their brain picked. Take care and happy Easter :)

You could try bluing the blade and seeing how well it takes. I have seen some Infi that took to bluing nicely.

I do not see a reason to strip the blade just to put another coating or patina on it. I just wipe mine down with filtz after use. The flitz wax also seems to help prevent stains and smudges. I do this with all my uncoated blades even the stainless ones.

I also treat my blades with Militec-1. It penetrates into the steel so that may be helping a lot as well.

U812 yeah your right. I just wanted to keep it "glossy" like say on the satin finishes from Busse.
What is filtz and where do you buy that?
Thanks for your responses everyone!

The best place to find both is eBay. I have never found militec-1 local but local gun shops do have the Flitz metal polish. Flitz also makes a wax. Go go Militec-1 website and read up on it,amazing stuff

So I went to the Militech site and read up on it.
So you are recommending the grease OR the oil??

I use the oil on my knives and firearms.

I ended up buying the gun and knife kit directly from Flitz. They had a deal on 2, so I go both kits, shipped to Canada (I live in the middle of nowhere) for $38. It's free shipping to the CONUS but there was a $3 fee to Canada.
The kit contained:
-spray degreaser/cleaner
-Polish
-wax
-a cleaning cloth.

Thanks again for the advice. I'm going to pick up some mineral oil as well
