Hey guys
Please allow a short question:
I'm interested in the knife mentioned above but have my doubts, whether I can use it for wild boar hunting. The reason is that it might be this knife isn't pointed enough to penetrate the thick hide. Am I right? So I'm looking for a similar knife with a better tip. Length should be as well around 9 inches. Would be great to get some informations.
Thanks in advance
Holger from Germany

It will kill a pig. They are tough but they aren't wrapped in titanium. Just hair and leather :)

Its more of a chopper, so yeah you could slash a hog to death with it. I prefer a straight stab myself but its been a few years since I hunted them with knives.

if you strong enough to stab deep enough to the wild board, i think it would be dead

Thanks so far for the answers. To go sure maybe I'm going to find a more pointed one, but this kind of knives seems to be relative seldom.
Best regards
Holger

What about the Becker BK5, I think that would be pointy enough...
Or an old bayonet og some sort...

The Battle Mistress is more of a chopper than a sticker. Svord from New Zealand makes one named the Pig Sticker. It has been purposedly designed for wild pig hunting. That could be exactly what you're looking for.

If you're looking for a purpose built design I'd suggest the Busse DSF:
Terror Monkey – Desert Storm Fighter = 14.25 oz; .23"; 8” blade; 13.625” oal

They pop up in the Exchange all the time.

Good luck!

I am not looking for a knife especially to kill hogs, I search a knife similar to the Battle Mistress, which has the capability to fulfil this issue as well. It should have nearly the same dimensions, but a more effective point. Maybe I didn't explain it detailed enough. Sorry.

For stabbing a hog you want a dagger very pointy and tapered - a very different design than the BM, which is optimized for chopping not stabbing.

While i dont own a Busse or hunt Boar (yeah i know it sucks here), id say the BM is plenty capable. In physical application, the difference in stabbiness between that and sonething spear pointed or more acute would be negligible. Long as that tip has a razor edge, you should be good. Assuming you are strong enough to be hunting boar with a blade, which im guessing you are since youre planning on it.

If you like the Battle Mistress just buy it and have a knifemaker grind the point down more like a bowie knife and you can have exactly what you want. You could do it yourself with a big hand file and not affect the heat treat in any way. With a big 12" to 14" Nicholson file I bet you could do it in 2 to 3 hours. I have done similar to some of my knives when I needed them to have more point and/or restoring broken points on some of my friend's knives. Very easy to do and you will have a unique Battle Mistress.

Thanks again for all these interesting answers. As soon as I have found a solution I will let you know.

I'm not sure if you've found your pig knife yet but I'd check out Lon Humphrey he used to sell a few blades here in the knife makers forum. He makes a hand forged pig sticker knife and it looks pretty nice. I believe someone around here owns one and has taken a pig with his. That's one knife I'd take a hard look at if I were in the market for a dedicated pig hunter knife. He also has a website, it looks like a pretty big knife.
