I recently pre-ordered a Centofante Memory and was wondering does Spyderco mark their knives in some way when it is a first production run?

For instance when I bought my Benchmade Emmissary it came marked #343 of 1000, first run.
Something like that anyway.

Does Spyderco mark their new releases similairly?

Thank you for your help. Tommyguns

There is nothing consistent that I know of. Some knives will have the designers marking in one area, like the Manix2 or the Para2. Other than this, there are no serial numbers, any other identifiable markings on them. All it really does is add to the final cost.

Nope. They used to mark the first run with collaborators, but discontinued that practice many years ago. Some exceptions were limited edition runs, such as the World Trade Center D'Allara or the anniversary Delica. The only consistent numbering they do is the collector's club knives, which are numbered only for the members of the collectors club (who don't get to pick and choose which models they receive).

Well, I guess it can be assumed that this knife will not be a user , so if you have the original box with it, it will have a two letter date of manufacture code on it (ie: AK= January, 2011. or JJ=October, 2010) thus lending some credence to its first run status.

Why? Do you enjoy having writing and numbers all over your blade? I personally don't care for text all over my blades. The country, steel type, and the bug are enough. It's not like writing makes the knife cut better or anything. In most cases, I've seen a number of blades from other makers that etch First Production on the exchange more so than non etches knives of the same model.

Spyderco stopped numbering the first run of new knives a while back. However, Collectors Club knives are still numbered and some dealers, including New Graham, own several numbers. As is obvious from RevDevil's post, some folks don't like getting a CC#d knife, you could call NGK and ask specifically to be put down for a numbered one when the Centofantes arrive. Not sure which other dealers have CC numbers of their own, but you could also make inquiries and do the same with one of them if they can't accommodate you, or you prefer to shop elsewhere.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply to my post. I thought it would be nice to have a first run number on it just in case I decide to sell it in the future. I'm not planning on selling it ever, but it would have been a nice to have possible to sell faster and maybe for more.

It will just be nice once it finally arrives.

Thanks again everyone. Sorry I haven't signed on lately.
