Question-STRIDER

Wait until you get it. See if you like it and then go from there. I've owned a number of SMF's and I've never had a fit or finish issue.

tirod3, interesting evaluation of the Sebenza since you have never handled one. You are wrong on so many points. The Sebenza is not hard to open, it does not slide around in your grip, and it closes very nicely with one hand. ...and as far as hard use, it has taken all the abuse I could give it when other knives I've owned couldn't. Unlike you, I can't comment on the Strider because I have never even seen one, and won't, since my Sebenza will "do it all".

It was too hard to consider true customs. I had no reference point. No possible way to handle one, nothing to compare it to. They looked nice and had specs I was looking for, but I didn't know anything about most of them. Atleast with Strider, Chris Reeves and some others. I could read about them and get a ton of info, and I even had a chance to handle them awhile ago when the blade show came to town. I have Emersons that are expensive, HD-7 TI and such, But this will be my first Super HIGH end knife. And Reeves and Strider are considered "semi custom'' And people swear by them. There are whole forums devoted to just strider knives. Someone must love them. So with what I have info wise I think I made a good choice. We'll see I guess.

This advice should be boxed up and provided to everyone starting out buying expensive knives.

Do your homework, know what you're getting without getting carried away by hype, and take it one step at a time. There's always another knife to buy later.

I had no reference point.

That's what the passaround forums are for. We have a) a sebenza and b) and (older) strider. (Disclaimer for US persons only at this point)

Go to the passaround forum and ask for a new passaround for them.

Maybe the Strider fan club could pitch in and buy us a SNG or something for a permanent passaround?

I wanted a knife I could really put to tough use that I will still have when I'm an old man and my grand kids want to see my knife.

IMHO there is a conceptional contradiction in a tough knife using a high alloyed powder steel. No matter the thickness.

I doubt, your gran kids will see the Strider. Not because it would be broken, but over time, the knife aspect will grow over the prybar aspect.

I guess, they will see something like a case slipjoint.:D

Ok. This thing is the best knife(folding) I've ever seen. Now, almost $500. Some people find it hard to believe I would spend so much on a knife, Like most of my friends, and even my ''knife'' friends. The funny thing is, the only person that understands is my wife, She loves it and wants one, but she understands because she said see thats almost the same as when a bag I have costs 2,000. You(me) don't see the difference and think I'm crazy. Just think it's great My wife is the only person I know in person that understands But I'm sitting here holding it, and I look over there and I see, 2 710s, A chinook, a Manix, A Super CQC-7 and 2 HD-7s. Now I got most of those knives in the past year of so. Take one HD-7, a Chinook and a 710, and there's the Strider. I would gladly trade those for this. I would gladly trade all those knives for this one. And I could see paying more than what I paid too. When you're very into something, anything, For me one of the things is knives, And you find a perfect one, thats something. I'll write more of why I love it and all, later.

I personally would've gone with the XM-18 if I could find one. You can rest assured that you didn't waste you money though.

Congrats Killerskill,

Like all things in life, whats right for you or me may not be right for someone else. I love Striders. I collect them, carry them and USE them. I carry an AR on duty every shift.

I also love CRK Sebenza's, and have yet to find another knife that is as precise (except custom Mayo's). I carry one of these every day also in my mission wallet. It serves a different function than my Striders. The Sebbie is used for cutting food up for my kid. The Strider for pretty much everything else.

Different tools, different knives, different strengths.

Glad you like your SMF. The tanto SMF is a great EDC user. If you want a small pry tool to go along with it, look into an Atwood Spannerbaby.

Yes I'm glad to hear you like it too...

Good Luck with it and enjoy it.

Anyone know anything about this-the SMF tanto I have was one of the last numbered tanto Bluelinegear had. He said he sold them a long time ago, then found a pouch he had taken to a blade show and found the last 3 numbered ones. He said when Strider comes out with a new model they number the first production run #001-100. Mine is #097. Does that make it special or worth more. I would imagine it does, But how much so. I planned on making this a hardcore USER, but if it's special, I might shelf it, and get another non-numbered one.

There are only 100 tanto production SMF's. Value seems to be on par with or slightly ahead of non-numbered drop point SMF's.

I'd use it.

I`d use it and never look back.

SWEET..........I'm gonna EDC it all day every day. It's my go to folder. I love this knife.:D

I think I'm gonna get a green cord wrapped WP tanto now. I was looking for a small FB with kydex/tec lok, and IWB type of set up. Looks like that knife will fit that role. I think I've gone Strider crazy
