Over two decades of active military service, and I always had a SAK with me; the Passenger to be exact.

Hey all, this is my first post! Wooo!

When I was in I carried the issued Gerber multi-tool. I hated it because I found it to be a bit loose and rickety. Then one day in Afghanistan I traded with a combat engineer for a SOG multi-tool and I loved it. Soon after that a friend of mine broke the pliers on my SOG and I had to find my way back to the Gerber. Also, at various times, I carried a CRKT M16, CRKT ABC, and the CF jump knife; all of these knives were either lost or damaged beyond repair in various ways (as per the typical young soldier...)

Of course, being a tanker, I would have gotten more use out of a screwdriver than a knife, and I did regularly carry one of those interchangeable screwdrivers.

US Navy SeaBee equipment operator from '74-'78 and was "issued" nothing. Kinda funny that we could have a TD-20 'dozer or a TS-24 monster sized scraper, but no itsy, bitsy little knife. Hmmmm, priorities, I guess.

When I was "in"...we used to chip off pieces of flint and bind 'em to sticks with rawhide...IIRC. Oh yeah, had an issued bayonet also...
Now? Usually a CRK Umnumzaan

When I was in Iraq in 2004 I carried a Leatherman Wave in a belt pouch and an Old Timer in my pocket. I briefly carried a CRKT M16-T but it was too big for me to desire to carry.

I used the blade in my Leatherman for pretty much everything - but usually that meant opening MRE's.

Now, I still have the same Leatherman and carry it in my bag at work every day, but in my pocket I carry a CRK Large Sebenza w/ Micarta. I also still have the same Old Timer knife, which is in my work coat pocket.

USMC 6th MTBN 4th Mar. Div. "Baghdad Express". I carried a Gerber BMF on my web gear all during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. The brass, and staff nco's could care less about us carrying large blades. The local ragheads had a different opinion though. They would look at the big knives like "holy shit" stay away from me with that thing.
Edit: I also had a Spyderco Endura Clipit in my pants pocket.

CAV Scout here, I carry an old Buck 110 on my belt with either a leatherman WAVE or a MUT (depending on if I'm in the field or not), and I've started carrying my Spyderco Dragonfly (my first "cool guy knife" purchase) in my pocket, too. Looking into getting a Fixed blade for my kit, but I seem to have prohibitively expensive taste!

Hello,

First of all I would like to thank you for your service to our country.

Next, what knife did you carry while active and what do you carry non-active duty?

Thanks for the images and stories!
As active duty marine infantry, I currently carry a tops mil spie 5… on my last (first) deployment, I carried a bench made Adamas fixed blade. I’ve also carried a classic (Kabar) in a custom kydex sheath. A constant for me has been a black benchmade griptilian in my pocket.
