Greetings Gentlemen,

Could anyone please inform me of the nearest state to N.Y. state where auto's are legal?

Thank You,
Eric

Conn. ...There is a Large show every year in Conn that is like being in auto Heaven.....In NY you can OWN with a fishing, hunting , Trapping license.....

Does that mean that I would be allowed to carry an automatic knife while fishing? Or does it only cover owning the knife and keeping it in the house?

The exact wording of the law allows for poession of a switchblade or gravity knife for use while hunting, fishing and trapping. This would allow for having in your house and going to or coming from those activities. Read the law under Levine's section on this forum. Beaware I was a NYC LEO and at least in the city I NEVER met a co worker who knew that part of the law that allowed for carry of this type of knife. I strongly suggest printing out that part of the law for ready reference. Buying, selling, trading etc is not legal unless you are a LEO.

I don't know what they are selling at shows in Connecticut, but CT General Statute 53-206 prohibits carrying switch blades with blades over 1.5" in length. You can have anything you want in your home but getting it there could be a problem.

I have been told that switchblades may be legally carried in Rhode Island if you belong to a knife collecting club. I have never researched this myself, so I do not know if I was informed correctly.

Sec. 53-206. Carrying of dangerous weapons prohibited. (a) Any person who carries upon his or her person any BB. gun, blackjack, metal or brass knuckles, or any dirk knife, or any switch knife, or any knife having an automatic spring release device by which a blade is released from the handle, having a blade of over one and one-half inches in length, or stiletto, or any knife the edged portion of the blade of which is four inches or over in length, any police baton or nightstick, or any martial arts weapon or electronic defense weapon, as defined in section 53a-3, or any other dangerous or deadly weapon or instrument, shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars or imprisoned not more than three years or both. Whenever any person is found guilty of a violation of this section, any weapon or other instrument within the provisions of this section, found upon the body of such person, shall be forfeited to the municipality wherein such person was apprehended, notwithstanding any failure of the judgment of conviction to expressly impose such forfeiture.
