Question- Why the shortage of GEC patterns with a drop-point?

I forgot about the 73's, just not a fan of them.

I prefer the smaller knives like the 25 with a drop-point, of which I don't see many. About as rare as hen's teeth.

Hahaha. Someone hasn't been paying attention. The TC barlows were first offered with spears, the clip points are a new release.

Wow, that's perfect! I haven't seen those at any of my regular dealers though.
There was a different "barlow" pattern out a while back with spear points, but the blades looked stubby and fat - more like a sunfish blade.

You won't see them either as they sold out very quickly.

PM incoming.

GEC calls their #5 blade a Drop Point/Shinner. They use it on many of their knives. Here it is on their 735109 liner lock.

At first glance, some people think it looks more like a clip point than it does a drop point.

One of the Schrade-Wostenholm knives assembled/finished in Sheffield (with blades and frames produced by Camillus) in the early 1980's was a drop-point.

Probably my all-time favourite blade shape from a practical point of view.

This thread has opened my eyes to these little guys, thanks Kirk. Wish I could find one of these ;)

That photo is nice and the knives even nicer. That could be my desktop wallpaper.

So they didn't make enough of these, but dealers are flooded with seemingly thousands of unsold "leg" knives. Go figure.

From Mink's pic I find that a big advabtage of droppoint on a GEC is that it has least protrudent when closed ,which making it pretty pocket friendly. I have a #25 with a Clip main ,so wide when it is in my shorts .

But a droppoint , has smaller curve than a skinner(#71 Bullnose) or a spey ,and more pointy tip( and weaker) .

I just returned a droppoint , part of the reason is that I do not like the pointy ,punkko like tip .

The Barlows were a Special Factory Order. The GEC Factory made as many as were ordered. It's impossible there are "thousands" of unsold leg knives as there were never more than a few hundred made.

An exaggeration obviously; when comparing the number of leg knives to the number of available wood-handled spear-point Barlows, it sure seems like there are thousands of leg knives. ;)

Who was the SFO for? (Since the item is no longer available, it can't be considered Deal Spotting to say.)
