Hi
I had 5 rare Schrades arrive yesterday here are 2 of them that I have questions about.
The LB7 seems to have a faint tang stamp does anyone know why???
None of my other LB7s are like this.
On the reverse side of the same knife it has a bold dark tang stamp saying HO70, does anyone know what this means???
Also curious if the 2 blade knife in other pic has stainless steel blades it says 79 after artists name on scrimshaw pic so I think it was made in 1979???

Try editing you picture links to appear in a stack, instead of a row.

HO70 is a Heritage edition LB7. The series was begun in the early eighties. I can't quote you a year for yours, but if you find the flier, you'll likely see your very knife in the photo. 000 was often a photosample, as you know.

The Scrim is indeed from 1979. The artist's signature date works in this instance, but in several cases, the art was done for the following year's production, thus a 79 signature might be found on an 80 knife. Later, art patterns were repeated for several years, some revived from several years back. Again, your 001 might be a photosample, and you might see it appear in the flier for that year.

All my scrims are stainless so I think this one is stainless also,in Larry list of scrims it shows as a 1979.Arnold

Some were carbon steel. I have a 1979 SC501 and a SC205 that are carbon bladed. Most of the fliers don't really state the steel. I suppose we'll have to survey to see which are and arent. I'll look thru my catalogs.

Thanks both for you help, the scrim had some light pitting on both sides of the tang of the second blade which I very carefully removed but strangely the knife does not have the slightest hint of brown rust anywhere on it (or the area where the pitting was). I would be kinda surprised if it was not stainless but I dont know.

Whats the difference between a sample and a photosample?
I think they may have dropped the five digit serial number on subsequent scrims the same as this one so it may not be a 00001 of 10,000 or 5000 or other.
Im guessing this just from making some casual observations on ebay. The serial number on the bolster does not always carry over into full production models???? Think it means they forecast a prediction of making that many but does not always eventuate nor do subsequent serial numbers follow if they do proceed with plans to make more the same. Dont know if it really makes any difference to the value of the knife either way???
If anyones interested I think I may be able to track down some pics to show where this does apply.

Sorry Timstools I gave you bad information I just looked at the 30 scrims I own and drew a conclusion.I quess there are are some I haven't seen.Arnold

No problem making a conclusion on the best info you have especially if you have 30. No worries at all.
Cheers Tim
