Question??

This isn't a technical question, really. It's a matter of forum propriety. And it has come up before.

I am going to move this to FEEDBACK, where we generally discuss it.

Stipulate quick payment required. Then give them a time frame if you have a line of interested folks. If they don't pay in the requested time frame, move to the next person. It is your sale. You can sell to who ever you want for what ever reason you want.

I know there have been others, but here's one thread discussing flakes:

Maybe it would help to start a thread specifically to name members who agree to buy or trade and then back out? It seems like some folks will not honor their word without the threat of negative consequences. Might take them think twice before saying "I'll take it".

Edited to add:
I haven't had a problem with this here personally, but selling items elsewhere it is a very frequent and frustrating experience.

Like craytab said, many people stipulate that payment must be made within a specified time (usually a matter of hours) or the sale rotates to the next in line.

That is what I do, sometimes things happen in life and we are unable to complete deals. It does not allow for repetitive flaking behavior, which is against the rules. If you cannot afford the asking price, please do not say you will take it in a sales thread. Also, these things don't necessitate the use of the Itrader feedback system either.

I've had to start doing this because it's funny how some think they can say they'll take it, reserving their spot so they can pay in the next 48 hours whenever they feel like it. Nearly 100% of the time these people end up backing out anyway and are generally always unpaid members. I think some say they'll take it so they can reserve it, having a limited amount of funds to begin with, and then continue browsing the forums looking for something else they'd rather have and use that money towards so they can purchase it and back out on your deal.

These same people also can never follow explicit directions that say post you'll take it followed by immediate email so I can send PP info. You check your own sales thread an hour later and someone posted they'll take it 59 minutes ago and they're nowhere to be found.

On maybe one occasion I've bent on the time frame rule because the buyer was someone with high feedback that I've seen consistently posting on the forums and seems like a good guy that I'd actually have a pleasant transaction with. I think we can all sense when first interacting with prospective buyers or reading their posts whether it'll be a smooth transaction, and sometimes it's probably a blessing in disguise when they back out.
