Greetings all. This is my first post in the Buck thread. Inspiration for this post is a Buck Bantam I saw down at the local PX. It's only 16.99. It's light, plain edge, looks solid. It seems to be everything I like in a knife. I realize I'm looking for an excuse to buy it by asking the Buck guys. What are your thoughts on this knife?

In my opinion they are a good solid knife. They take and hold an edge well. Ihave mine on me today. For thr price they are a good deal, the only mark against them is they are made in china. You have my permission to buy it if that makes your decision easier.

Thank you. advice taken. I bought one this afternoon. It's so lightweight. Yet, it seems tough also. I'm going to put it to work this week.

Just figgered I'd chime in to say welcome as well. I got mine for free and even though its made in china, the blade seems the same as USA Bucks,
very tight all the way around. I use in when I might get wet or have a chance of loosing it:eek:. I have the largest(286) as I like the big honkin
knives. again welcom-enjoy the bantam-BTW I think one of the threads said they will be among the first to come back to USA production from china-someone correct me if I'm wrong. If I'm not it will be worth another $17:thumbup:

imafritz is correct; the Bantams are among the first knives coming back from China. In fact, we ahve just completed a pilot run of 1,000 model 285 Bantams and will be mvoing into the 284 Bantams immediately, with the 283 and 286 following closely behind. The goal is to have all Bantam models US built by/before year's end.

Oh COOL! Will the model numbers change or will there be some way to tell which are the new US-made knives?

Thanks Bill,
Will the pricing stay around the same and will the handle material continue as thermoplastic?

Yes and yes. Pricing will NOT change and the handle material stays the same as well. We are SERIOUS about bringing the Bantams and others back in house.

The models # will not change, but the box will say Made in USA, and there will be Buck USA on the Backbone of the blade.
