Question

Hi Stomper -

I have posted reviews on JerzeeDevil - there is one there now of the scandi.

http://www.jerzeedevil.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76721

I will also post some pics and a review of my Bowie and the great sheath that Noah made for it over on JD -

I really don't frequent any other knife forums.

I have posted a couple of reviews here in the knife reviews forum and in WSS, but I get little or no replies.

You can lead a horse....

best regards -

If it helps...

I found your subforum after a post by Pitdog on the WS&S forum of the small scandi Huron series blade that you did. I didn't have the cash at that time, but kept your work in mind. The thread where the guy shot his JK and couldn't kill it was pretty impressive, as was the testimony of your customers on this forum in general.

In the end, it was the contest that put me over the edge... well that and the fact that my funding came through for the next year.

I wouldn't have known about your knives if it weren't for bladeforums and WS&S in particular.

I think you should make more knives just to sell. I would do some pocket kits and riverwood companions, maybe a larger knife like phoenix or survival knife. Those are some of the newer knives that haven't really been seen much but have great potential(IMO).

I did do a mini review for the Pack Knife the other day. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=745899

Thanks for that review, I had seen Andy`s, but not yours. Speaking of the Phoenix, I have one done, if it`s not claimed in the next week by the customer who ordered it, it will go up for sale.

Like the others have said ..."It's not your design, it's the lack of Money" I love my Lobo & would love to get some more of your knives but money is tight, I'm doing some home remodling & I've got vacation comming up & that pretty much takes up all my "FUN Money" for now:o I know you like to use 01 steel (it's awsome) ...just an idea but maybe you could make a few of your knives in 1095 (it's alot cheaper than 01 & works great) & like they also said try to make a few Gun & knife shows, offer a knife to nutnfancy on youtube & let him do a review on it !
I'll get another when I get a chance

John, you're doing a great job, and I love the new designs. Like everyone else, money is tight, and I've finally got a nice stable of knives that do what I need and want to do with knives.

Maybe I'm falling out of my knife addict ways a bit, but I look at your new stuff and think "Man, that is awesome, I should get one" but then the voice of reason tells me I'm set with what I have right now and don't need to spend the money.

I really like the new bushpacker kit and the pack knife, I wish I could convince myself I needed one.

I'm in a similar situation. I have plenty of EDC/woods knives. That said, I am very interested in the new kitchen knife. It and a 3 to 3.5 inch paring knife and an 8 to 10 inch chefs knife in 1/16 inch stock would fill a gap for me.

I've also thought a dedicated carving/whittling knife would be nice. Something along the lines of a bench knife - 1/16th inch stock, ~1.5 inch wharncliff blade 1/4 or 3/8th inch tall, with a 4 to 5 inch handle.

Just my $.02

A kitchen knife, eh? Keep an eye out, then ;)

Hi cvc -

I like all these ideas!

I just ordered a Riverwoods Companion, that would be close to a paring knife in size, but the blade on the RC is a little thicker.

I do most of my knife work in the kitchen slicing up foods, and a thinner blade just works better for this.

I just received the pass-around Kitchen Kutter (my name - I like to use K's with Stompers work ;) ) and I have done a little slicing with it already.

Pictures and an extended review coming, and I am ordering one of these 100% for sure.

I'm looking forward to the reviews on the pass-around kitchen knife. It looks like a winner.

I was imagining the paring knife around 5/8th inch tall, although my design contest knife (3/32 stock,7/8 inch tall, 3 inch blade) John made for me is going to spend some time in the kitchen.

Stomper, just in case you didn't see my question on the other thread! I am kind of interested in the pheonix that you are talking about! What type of handle did you do on that one? If the customer doesn't pick it up, can you send me a photo of it via e-mail? I'll be watching my e-mail! Thanks!

I had my sights set on a Lobo this summer but my back has really been bothering me... been to my doctor, MRI, and to a surgen this week. To top that off I just got over $500 in bills from my steroid shots last fall. The funny (or not so funny) thing is that I have really good insurance (and a pretty good job).

Even with my raise and overtime I'm going to be in the hole for a few months.

A picture posted on the WSS directed me here. I occasionally post pic's to help, but moneys tight.

I still find it amazing that people order from you and then never pick them up.
Incredible.

If you're refering to the Phoenix and the red EDC. My computer was dead for almost a month and John decided to sell two days after posting them as ready to ship. Luckily, the Phoenix is wearing wood supplied my me or it would be gone as well.
I have over 20 of John's knives, half a dozen other knives, many handle materials, and have never failed to pay for anything on this forum.

Dave has contacted me about the order, and set me straight. I have always had good dealings with him in the past. Hopefully he and I can get things back the way they were. With all the medical bills piling up, I get more than a little worried about selling knives, but I guess I jumped the gun on this one. I publicly apoligize to Dave for this, and I have contacted him about making it right.

I couldn't agree more John money is the problem not your designs . John you have some great knives/designs getting your name out there and letting more people see your knives is a good idea . You could always step up your game and collaborate witth another maker maybe learn a new grind or handle making style . I know the scandi grinds helped . I was also thinking just just for kicks I would like to see a fancy dressed JK blade .

I wonder if this might help. People with the money to spend probably have a lot of it, and perhaps see your knives as economical users, without the frills of some of the higher end more collectible knives. Maybe doing a higher end line with premium exotic wood handle materials, filework, bolsters, mosaic pins and the like might help you reach out to the higher end consumers.

Of course this is an investment risk, as you don't want to be stuck with expensive materials if no one is still buying the knives.

Perhaps you could also try selling through other venues like ebay.

I know an engraver in Peoria if you want super fancy bolsters ;)
