Questions about a BK14?

Hey Guys,
I am thinking about getting a BK14 for my first becker but I have a few questions first. Does the sheath dull the blade??? How is the edge retention??? Is it good at general EDC tasks like cutting cardboard???
Thanks

Hit the buy button. Promise you'll have no complaints. I've had no issues with my newer style sheat. Edge retention is great as well due to a good heat treat. Great quality edc blade for a stellar price. Do it, do it, DO IT

Then buy a tweener haha

Yeah it's good to go. I EDC a BK11 because it's just cooler! Stays sharp and does big knife stuff too.

BUY NOW. The handle is so comfy and now there's after market zytel scales available on the cheaps. Yes, it will easily cut cardboard, yes, at least with my sheath is does SLIGHTLY dull the blade, but it only really knocks off a very fine edge, it won't mess with a working edge. Edge retention is very good IMO. I myself am in the process of getting some kydex for mine though.

They're also a great knife to be your first mod, as there's not too much surface area to strip/sand. Here's mine after strip, sanding, and patina:

Cardboard???? I cut up a COUCH with mine awhile back, Im pretty sure cardboard wont faze it!

The sheaths DO in my experience, dull the edge. But a new one isnt hard to come by so go for it...Its a random event though.

Its hit or miss on the sheath dulling. See the reason behind it is Kabar designed a glass filled nylon and its super strong. Great idea for a sheath right? It was too strong and dulled the edge where it rubbed on insertion/extraction. Now there are still glass filled sheaths out there but they are weening there way into non existence and Kabar is putting out new non glass filled versions. Problem is its luck of the draw as to which you will get, old stock or new. My advice is to buy it, sheath and draw it a bunch of times a see if it dulls it. If it does take an emery board or small file to the inside on the sheath to file down the area that rubs. Once you give it clearance, your good to go.

O and to answer your question about the cardboard, I direct you here. The bk11 and the bk14 are the same blade different handle.

I got one of the new sheaths and I still have some dulling going on. Not a big deal, though. I just ordered an AZWelke sheath for mine. That should clear up any trouble. The aftermarket kydex is also a lower profile and has more carry options. Doesn't cost much either. That's the route I went, and I'm happy with it. A knife as good as the 14 deserves good sheathing.

Bump! Kydex is the way to go! I have a AZWelke for mine and it is tight as hell! Got to mod it a liltte. Takes two hands and about and way to much might to get it out.

Al, I hope you don't think I was knocking it. Just a little tight on the 14. If ,I didn't like it, I wouldn't have bought one for my 2:D
All is good!
Thanks!

Go for it! The BK14 is a great EDC fixed blade. And honestly, I didn't have too much trouble with the sheath. After a couple pulls it's not a problem.

I appreciate that!!
Thank you very much.
