I have a chance to snag some fair size pieces of A8 about 2 1/2" wide x 1/2" thick. What I would like to know is this worth the time to cut down and forge into a few blades? If so what type of quench, what hardness should I expect, any tricks that I need to know about?

I know it works very well for my wooden block planes that I have made, Just looks alittle odd with a 1/2" thick blade in a hand plane.

Thanks in advance guys.

useless.... send it to me for burial...

Nice score, how long are the pieces? High forging temperatures...

Being an air hardening steel it isn't optimal for forging unless you have previous experience with such steels, and a digital furnace is highly recommended.
