I just bought one and would like to know when they were made and how
many ? What are the differences between the Akonua and the Kalinga ?
Are there any books on the history of Buck knives ? Thank you for your time.
Hi,
I don't know the dates of manufacture or the quantity. I assume that there were a great deal of these made as it was in production for quite a few years. As for differences the Kalinga is much larger than the Akouna. I have acopy of "THE STORY OF BUCK KNIVES" in very good condition. Contact me and I will sell it for $10 shipped. Peace,

Hello and welcome to the Forums!
The 401 Kalinga was introduced in 1970 and the 402 Akanua followed in 1971. The first ones will have black micarta handles and a hinged box. Red miacarta is a rare version that probably came after the black and just before the red colored wood.
